Games started back on 18 March for the 2007 season. Mothers day, and it snowed on all over those brave enough to show up. It was great to see some new faces as well as the old reliables. In all over 30 children took part in the games this year and although only 4 teams went forward to the championships we hope to field more teams next year.

Practise started in earnest in May by which stage it was clear that we had some really hot ponies and riders.

Games competition were thin on the ground so we had our first outing at a friendly down with the Shillealaghs in June with 3 under ten teams and 3 junior teams.

2 under ten and 2 junior teams were eventually sent forward for the Championship qualifiers in Bannon on 8 July with Jenny Dervla and Pam backed up by the calming presence of TJ as Trainers.

All rode to the best and we were rewarded by all 4 teams getting through to the Championships with the under 10s again winning the Wicklow Pony Club Trophy for the 3rd year in a row.

The Championships were in Stradbally and an army of Wicklow Pony Club Games riders, trainers, brothers sisters, aunties, uncles, grannies cousins and the rest all arrived bright and early on 1 August. Every where you looked there was a Wicklow PC jacket or jumper. The new red sweaters looked great. Expectations were high and nerves were jumpy.

The Juniors were first. Pams team of Amy Sutton, Clare Foley, Clair Savage, Emily Tebbit Sarah Geletlie and Jennys team of Jessica O`Brien, Ben and James Kavanagh and Darah and Con Callan got stuck in and once the nerves settled all was well. After 4 hours of galloping up and down and vaulting up and off Jennys team were through to the final 6 of what was a really hot competition. In the end they came 4th which was a fantastic result and a huge congratulations to all. Pams team were unlucky not to win the B final but came 4th which is great way to finish the year.

The next day was the under 10s who had come second last year so hopes were high. Jennys team of Jack Savage, Sarah O`Loughlin, Lucy Geletlie Emily Kavanagh and Shona Callan and Dervlas team of Thomas and Cormac Foley, Lena Tice, Scythe McCarthy and Susie Sutton all looked great. Jennys team got through to the finals and came 5th which was a huge achievement in such a strong competition. Dervlas team got over the collywobbles that had cost them dear in the morning competition and went on to come second by 2 points in the B final. These children are all under 10 and have to be congratulated for their bravery in doing at a gallop with one hand on the reins what many children would never do at walk!!

A huge thanks as always to the parents who committed to the many many practises. The results were proof of all that hard work. A big thank you to Orla and Dan for the medical back up without which we would have been lost. Just knowing they were there helped to keep our nerves steadier. To all those who lent their ponies thank you as with out this we could not be competitive.

On behalf of Jenny Dervla and Pam thank you to all the children who have scared us to death, made us laugh and cry at the same time and swear and curse like soldiers. It really is the best way to keep fit and when we are old and infirm we will chuckle together at the hilarious antics we all got up to. You remind us of how great we think we used to be when we were in Pony Club though of course we never missed the bucket!!

See you all next year.
Dervla, Jenny, Pam
