IPC Festival 2010

Following a shaky start to our 2010 games campaign we were delighted to have an Under 10 and a Junior Games team qualified for the IPC Festival in July. The standard was very high this year especially in Junior but our team put their hearts into it and got into the A final which was a wonderful achievement. Our U10s most of whom were brand new to the games also rode brilliantly and competed in the C final. Thanks so much to our wonderful games trainer Mary Dunne and to all the parents who helped out.

We were lucky enough to be invited to compete in the Robbie Bailey Final and although our team was a little unlucky on the day we did go home with rosettes for horsemanship. Thank you to our Robbie Bailey trainer Edwina O'Connor for all her help and encouragement.

Camp 2010 was a huge success and judging from the feedback was greatly enjoyed by all. Thanks again to Susan and all the Phillips Family for the use of the wonderful facilities in Ballinacoola. Thanks also to all our instructors and to everybody who helped out in any way especially the wonderful crew who set up everything and worked hard all week on the cross-country course. Thanks to Alan Farrar and Nigel Law who

Only 2 days to go to Camp in Ballinacoola. The field looks great now with 3 showjumping rings 2 dressage arenas lots of cross-country and a games arena. Thanks to everyody who came out last night in the rain to help to set up. We have almost 150 for camp this year in 18 rides and we have done our best to match up ages, friends and interests. There is very limited scope for movement but we will be looking at the groups on Monday to make sure they are working well and if anybody has been mismatched or is desperately unhappy we will do our best to move them.

The most important aspect of camp is safety and we will be giving every family a copy of the camp safety rules on Monday morning. These rules must be strictly adhered to so please read them carefully. Children who are not riding must not be allowed to roam around unsupervised and any found near the railway line or in any out of bounds areas will not be allowed to remain at camp. We are also asking families not to bring dogs - we have many young riders and every year a number of dogs escape from their leads or cars so please leave your dog at home.

The dress code for camp is a white or light blue polo type t-shirt with collar (no round-necked t-shirts) cream, beige or white jods (dark colours are ok during the week but not for tests or on Friday), pony club sweatshirt or a plain navy round-necked sweat shirt (no hoodies or other colours) pony club tie and badge (these will be available on the field). You must wear an approved skull cap for cross-country and a level 3 body protector for jumping. Suede chaps only allowed for U12s. Please ensure your tack is clean and check the stitching.

If anybody has items of tack or riding gear for sale please bring it along to camp and let us know what you have and how much you want for it.

Congratulations to our Robbie Bailey and John Leddingham teams who travelled to Bunclody for the qualifier on July 2nd. 3 Robbie Bailey teams and 3 John Leddingham teams were entered and all did very well. We took home 4th place in the Robbie Bailey narrowly missing one of the qualifying places and also the prize for horsemanship and 6th place in the John Leddingham. Thanks to Lyn, Edwina and Jenny who did a great job training the teams.

Robbie Bailey / John Leddingham League Places

We will be giving information at the rally on tomorrow night regarding training for Robbie Bailey and John Leddingham teams. The qualifier this year will be on grass so, because our league was on sand, we need to be sure that all potential Robbie Bailey and John Leddingham team members are safe jumping the full height on grass. The league places stand with the proviso that the trainer must be of the opinion that the horse and rider will be safe on the full strength course. Officially a club can send only 2 Robbie Bailey teams to the qualifier but we are hoping that Carlow will accept a minimun of 3 and possibly 4 Robbie Bailey teams so we will be training at least the first 4 teams. The qualifier is on July 2nd and the closing date for entries is June 22nd. If anyone on the list will not be available for the qualifier and / or the championships please let us know so that we can offer training to some reserves.

-

Our first rally is on tomorrow night June 11th in Ballinacoola, Glenealy, Co. Wicklow. Anybody who intends to be at the rally but has not ticked this date on their camp form needs to contact us immediately or they will not be in a group. Please be in Ballinacoola in good time to find your group and be ready to ride at 6:30 sharp.

-

Robbie Bailey is open to members U14 on 1st Jan and the jumps are 90cm. John Leddingham is open to anyone with a C test and the jumps are 1m and in Members the jumps go up to 110cm

-

The league is open to anybody whether you want to go on a team or not you can come along and take part. If there is any interest we can run a smaller course before the Robbie Bailey but anybody doing that course would have to be HC in the team selection.

Summer Camp

Summer Camp dates are July 12th - 16th. If you want to go to camp and have not yet renewed your membership please do so immediately as we need to know the numbers in order to start planning. Please let us know as soon as possible if you are renewing your membership as we have a waiting list for new members. The membership prices are the same as last year €100 for new members, €90 for renewals and €70 for 3rd member of same family.

The cost of the camp and 4 rallies (5 for new members) is exactly the same as last year €160. All members should attend at least 3 rallies in order to go to camp however there are exceptions made for those doing State exams or going to Irish College. Ring Dara on 086 0270414 if you are not able to do rallies. The cost of camp only is €130 for first 2 members of a family and €90 for 3rd and subsequent members of the same family attending camp.

We are very lucky this year to have the choice of two great locations for camp Rosanna in Ashford where we had such a wonderful week last year and Ballinacoola in Glenealy just across the road from our traditional camp field. It was a very tough decision as both are ideal venues ideal but we have decided to accept the Phillips family's very kind offer and we will be returning to Glenealy for camp this year.

Games Training

If anybody is interested in trying out some Pony Club Games please text GAMES and your name to the club mobile and we will send you the details. We would love to encourage some of the ex Junior Games riders to get involved and we might be able to get a Senior team together. We hope to build on our success at Junior and Under 10 and will look at Senior if there is enough interest. Senior riders must have their C test and must be under 16 on 1st Jan. Junior riders must be under 13 on 1st Jan. The next training session will be May 14th.

-

Minimus training is ongoing and we have a record 29 U12s involved.

Many of our Minimus hopefuls competed at the Island Hunt Hunter Trial last Saturday. Anybody hoping to go to the championships should think about doing Stradbally on 15th May and / or Kells on 7th June.

Warrington Branch is holding a Swim & Run on 16th May in Kilkenny and Scarteen has a full Minimus Challenge for teams of 4 on 30th May in Tipperary
