Targeting Tetrathlon First-Timers

If you are interested in getting involved in Tetrathlon for the first time this year the Irish Pony Club has announced a series of important changes for 2016 aimed at encouraging C test holders freshly out of the minimus age grade, or coming late to the tetrathlon discipline.
For the first time this year, over 12s will be allowed to participate hors concours at Minimus in May, where cross county fence heights are being increased to 80cm. This will be an ideal opportunity for juniors to have an early season spin over a decent course with gate and slip rail, combined with a swim and run under championships conditions.
Minimus teams have greatly benefited in recent years from the series of prep or fun events run by branches in the lead up to championships. A similar “pathway” now exits for those who wish to ease themselves into tetrathlon over the course of the season.

Please note the following dates
– April 2 Hunter Trials Championships
– April 17 Wicklow Minimus and Tetrathlon Day, Bel Air
– May 28/29 Minimus Championships, Punchestown, Co Kildare
– June 25 – 3 Phase Tetrathlon, Laois Branch
– July 30th – Aug 1st Tetrathlon Championships, Tattersalls, Co Meath

We would love to have an idea of how many of new and experienced tetrathletes we will have this year as this will allow us to plan swimming and shooting training. Please contact Rhona to register your interest or if you have any queries at all.

ODE Qualifiers Update

Very encouraging results for Wicklow so far in the qualifier series ahead of the IPC Eventing Championships at Tattersalls on 15th and 16th August next.

At Intermediate level, Caoimhe A. scored a very impressive win at Stradbally last weekend. In the Juniors, Mily O’L. is once again going well in the league and has been placed at every event she has entered so far this year including a fine win at Killossery. Other points scoring placings so far have come from Shona C. in the intermediates and juniors Jennifer R, Isobel R-D and Robert B.

A virtual army of WPC members are entered for Shillelagh’s qualifier this Sunday including many first timers so all support would be greatly appreciated.

Well done to Jessica who was placed 2nd in U12’s in Laois ODE last weekend.
